5 Shopping & Wardrobe Tips That Will Stop Wasting Your Hard Earned Cashola…

hello eclecticats! Tis Jode’s here….& Yes, I’ll admit it, i’m a shopping fiend – my bursting at the seams wardrobe makes that pretty hard to deny! But..and it’s a big old BUT – there’s nothing I get more annoyed with myself about than wasting money on bad purchases. I want my hard-earned cash to be spent on decent wardrobe filling investments—things that lift my spirits, make me feel like I can take on the world and will continue to do so for some time.

So in the spirit of shop smarter, look better & feeling our absolute best—we’ve popped together our top 5 eclectica tips to save your bank account AND your wardrobe!

1.NOT WEARING THINGS STRAIGHT AWAY

Unless you’re buying something for a specific occasion and you’re dead set on wearing your purchase at that do, I’m of the school of thought that you need to get some instant satisfaction out of your investments. If you don’t feel like wearing them now (or forget about them and find them two years later with a tag on!) you made the wrong choice!

2.NOT CHECKING SAID ITEM GOES WITH AT LEAST 3 OTHER THINGS YOU OWN

Ever take a piece home and rip out the labels only to discover they were never really going to work with the rest of your wardrobe? Yup, been there, done that and got the proverbial t’shirt. So now I like to mentally scan my wardrobe whilst still in the shop & think about what this ‘oooh’ new piece will go with.  If I can tick a few off I buy it, and then when I get home I have a try on to ensure that I get at least three different combinations with said new piece to be 100% sure –  I have to be positive I am going to get my moneys worth out of a new purchase, or it goes back.

3. THROWING CLOTHES AWAY WHEN THEY’RE “OLD”

If you buy decent quality, well made pieces there’s always new life to be found in old clothes—whether that’s simply a case of getting something properly dry-cleaned, fixed up/repaired or transforming it into something else with a little DIY knowhow, don’t be so quick to just chuck pieces away. If I’ve got a bit bored of something I tuck it away for a wee while, and then bring it back out and try it with my newer purchases…I’ll bet my last pound, you’ll get some gorgeous new looks and fall in love with that ‘old boring’ piece all over again.

4.BUYING INTO TRENDS THAT AREN’T YOUR STYLE

Here at eclectica we keep an eye on the new trends, but we have our limits about which of them will make it into our own wardrobes. For example, I’ve never been into sportswear, so no matter how much of an influence athleisure has had on the fashion world, I will NEVER adopt it into my own wardrobe.

Take time to locate your own classics and cement your personal style –  this will make shopping a whole lot more streamlined. If you have no flippin’ idea what your personal style is…don’t worry – you can book a wardrobe makeover or styling session with us and we’ll help you find it.

5.BUYING UNCOMFORTABLE PIECES OR ITEMS THAT DON’T FIT (YET)

I suspect we’ve all been guilty of this one at sometime – and indeed there may be a contingent that feels it’s motivational to buy smaller sizes, but personally I’d advise that you just pick something that fits and flatters you right now! Instant gratification AND you’ll feel way better about yourself than staring forlornly at something you can’t quite get into.

…here’s a bonus point. HORMONE-LED SHOPPING

Okay, so it’s a bit of a wild card – if you’re feeling the PMS creeping in, DO NOT GO SHOPPING! I guarantee it will end in some really poor decision-making, and possibly a few tears. Which in turn will likely lead to a major dent in your wallet over a piece you don’t even feel excited about. Personally when I get the urge to spend at  that time of the month I either buy a new piece of make-up or give in to nesting —lets be a honest a new lamp or a plant never made anyone feel bad about themselves!
