This weekend saw the first proper cold snap, so it’s time to admit that Winter is officially here!

Clothes are a great way to lift the spirits when the days are darker, it’s dreary outside and everything seems just a tad grim.

This season designers have had no end of fun with vibrant colours that are best worn head-to-toe; fluff, frills and the frippery of feathers are embellishing every item imaginable! If you’re not up for all that jazz, even the simple addition of a pair of bold tights will bring your wardrobe into the here and now.

Good news for the bank balance is that many trends are hitting their third or fourth winter season – such as the chunky knit and mini/midi skirt combination. So you might just need a little re-fresh to get a couple of looks going again!

eclectica’s top 5 tips for stepping out in style this season:

1. Red or dead.If one colour screams happy and festive, it’s red and thankfully it’s a flattering colour on all skin tones, so we can all give it a whirl. Wear it boldly head to toe, or use as an accent colour to add a bit of drama to an outfit.

2. Fancy tights:
Normally hosiery is seen as a bit of an outfit after-thought, but a bold pair of pins can hold a whole outfit together. Ditch the fishnets as your quirky go to pair and try something a little louder this winter.

3. Mad hatters:
Make bad hair a thing of the past and don a hat. Baker boy styles were all over the catwalks, as were berets. Our motto here at eclectica is the bolder the better!

4. Show stopping sequins & sparkles:
Adding detail through texture or embellishment is everywhere – from sequins & embroidery through to feathers. More subtle is the use of metallic thread to add quiet drama and interest.

5. Natty knits:
Whilst the oversize sweater is still king, shapes and styles have been updated this season with added details such as ballooned sleeves. Team yours with pencil skirts and high-waisted trousers for an extra dollop of glamour.

PS. We reckon it’s worth paying a bit more and going for sumptuous fabrics. They  will fit better; last longer and most importantly, will make you feel simply gorgeous all Winter long.
